Oh no, not too shabby at all.
I did request that this section be called "XJ 2009 - prsent (aka James' future car)" but the additional was left out!

So, only about another 14 years to wait then James.....you'll need a very big jar for all those pennies! :)

I have recently changed my 2010 XJ 351 from the 3 ltr diesel to the 2013 3 ltr petrol.
My main reason was the dpi as I mostly do short distances and this does suit a diesel.
Comparing the two is interesting as the diesel was far better on mpg and had plenty of grunt when required. The petrol is much smoother and has a good response to the throttle along with a quieter engine.
I am getting around 30-32 mpg ( I am not light footed) which I can’t complain about.
The spark plugs are scary as over £80 a set! I went to fit a new set in, even though I was told they should last over 1000000 miles, just to be sure. One look and I closed the bonnet! Not at all straight forward! I will pass this job onto my garage chaps who are first class.
The newer model has some modifications done to the led screen and is much fresher than the 2010 model with a better sat nav. Which do i prefer? The petrol model every time.

I’m sure there must be some good diesel X351 XJs out there, but when I was looking through Auto Trader over the last few months (hoping to buy), I couldn’t find any ☹️ All those I found had been over-used, uncared for, company hacks ☹️ Admittedly I couldn’t stump up the cash for a later model, but I’d kind’ve expected them to be in a bit better shape than your average Vauxhall Vectra! In the end my patience was rewarded when I found a 5 litre V8 petrol with only 45K on the clock and 2 previous owners who’d loved & cared for it like it should be 😁. Painting with a very broad brush, on the 2nd hand market, the petrol versions generally seem to have been better cared for over the years.

Quote from Car Magazine
"Verdict
A brilliant achievement. Great to drive and to sit in, here is a luxury saloon that mixes comfort and sportiness more successfully than ever before. And after living with one for a full day and night, I also think it looks fabulous".

Why are there so few around? It seems that the general public cannot see past the badges of the German brands. Maybe not a bad thing as I can enjoy some exclusivity.

Third anniversary today of ownership of my 2016 XJ351, I couldn't be happier and what a bargain it was. It's also a dream to service no more crawling around underneath. I suspect it will be with me for some time to come.
