Nick,
We met with Jaguar Classic Parts earlier this week to express our concerns on the availability of certain parts and to understand their plans for the future. It was a very helpful meeting which helped us to better appreciate some of the practical commercial difficulties that they face in the reproduction of certain items.
The good news is that the issue of facelift headlights is well understood and appreciated by them and they have been working for some considerable time to try and resolve the problem. Whilst they are not quite there yet, I believe that it is only a matter of time before a practical solution is available.
We hope to have an article on the meeting with Classic Parts in the next issue of the magazine.
In the meantime, it's perspex headlight protectors, stick-on film or always make sure that you're in front of everyone! Or else you could pay me big money for the spare ones in my garage......

Paul,
That info confirms that given by Jag Classic Parts at XJS Forum last December. I believe it revolves around issues with Lucas.
Only problem, they thought they would have the situation sorted "soon " then.......

DH,
Without going into too much detail, there are a couple of issues to do with copyright etc that are not helping matters. However, the main issue is the cost-effective production of one small but necessary part of the headlamp. This is the problem that they are working to overcome.
The magazine article on Classic Parts will be in the issue after next ie not the one that is due to be published in next couple of weeks.
Cheers

How a thread about a duff leaper can morph into an argument about headlights is beyond me
BUT...
At least we have a choice to which headlight set up we prefer. Pity the poor bastards that buy the new XK.....
