Hi Clive, my S3 Roadster took me to the NEC Show (top up of course) but after a clean out, wash, & polish is now covered up in the garage for the winter. Hopefully there'll be the odd fine day when we can have a run up the road just to keep things ticking over [mine & hers]. Looking forward to next season & meeting up with you & the others,

Gareth.

Yes very pleased with it, its only done 2300 miles in the last 23 years and been off road for the last 2. So expecting some teething problems having put it back on the road. It has been regularly serviced and maintained even during its SORN period, the only slight problem I have noticed is that the throttle linkage doesnt quite go back to 750rpm after blipping the throttle and you have to lift the linkage slightly for it to settle back down. The dashpots are well oiled, I will get to the bottom of it in due course! :?

Hi
Ref engine revs not returning to tickover, check RH engine mount as if it has deteriorated or poor quality then the linkage can touch the frame. :!:

Good advice.

I fitted thin spacers under my engine mounts, just in case. They are only about 0.5mm thick but they apparently make all the difference. Got them from Derek Watson, I think. I understand they were a retrofit from Jaguar in period due to throttles sticking open. Shows how marginal things can be.

It was as simple as the choke linkage sticking raising the tickover to 2000rpm. New 4 pot brakes and pads now fitted and the E actually stops now! Carbs retuned and balanced and is running like a dream. Although 6 hours labour to get at the cylinderhead core plug due to antifreeze leakage was painful, hence why the carbs came off and were retuned. Not put the E to bed yet as no salt on the roads and sunny days still around, so looking forward to driving (and stopping) again this Friday and weekend. :D

Steve,

It looks a lovely example I look forward to reading more about
in JEC magazine.

Don't put it to bed yet, in my opinion people always put their
Classics away far to early.

If there is no salt and the conditions are good, drive it and enjoy it :!:

My last post about putting the E to bed was in January 2012, so its still being used and has done 1600 miles in the last 10 months, 2/3rds of what it had done in the last 23 years!
The previous owner kept it in on SORN for many years, but I believe cars are there to be driven, but never, ever, in the rain! :D

My car was restored by a millionaire in 1978 -81 who threw an open cheque at it and had it restored.

He died 2008 and between '81 only '08 only 247 were done in the car.

After his death another millionaire bought it who lived at the other side of his land on his road out
of the 20 houses 12 had Rolls or Bentleys in the drive, driving up that small road in a Golf GTI T Mk4
felt very strange but on arriving at the house with its 4 car wide garage, one space was double depth so he
could drive in with his race car still attached.

Anyway getting back to the mileage part I had to drive this E-Type 114 miles after it had just gone to the MOT
station some years for its test.

I am pleased to say it made it.

Edward was out on hire Saturday gone, hes out next saturday and now we have a hire confirmned for 14th October plus it will be out for Wedding fayres and business exhibitions on nice days over the Autumn

Enjoy your car when the whether and roads are good
