I'm looking at fitting larger wheels, 18" if I can, on my 1981 HE and I'd like to get them as fat as I can without fouling the bodywork. Has anyone tried this and knows the maximum width the car can take without modifying the bodywork? I would also appreciate any recommendations for 18" wheels. I believe Arden used to produce some nice split-rims but they are no longer available, something like that would be great.

Thanks.

Trouble with the XJS front wheels is that they have such long spindles. You could fit any Jaguar wheel on it, but you wouldn't be able to insert the centre badge. I've seen early XK8 wheels fitted, but no badge. Spoils it all. Aftermarket supply is also scarce. I've searched.

Alex,
I believe a bolt on mod which may become popular is X300 4LTR supercharger XJR wheels which apparently go straight on and certainly fill the arches.
I havent done this myself but have seen a car with them on and they look the biz.
