Servicing

As my car is now out of warranty I am thinking of getting servicing by an independant rather than paying ridiculous dealer prices, but I am unable to find any servicing schedule regarding what to do when, eg brake fluid replacement, fuel filter etc etc. Does anyone know where that can be found, or is it entirely dependant on the service indicator in the message centre?

PS: I believe the diesel is only S Type to have a cambelt, does anyone know at what mileage it should be replaced?

Diesel cam belt change is 105k miles Andy. Details in engine section of this S-type BB.

Jaguar WDS internet site will give full details but is "pay as you go on" a daily/ weekly. monthly or annual basis. You can print off the information you require from the site.

I`m unsure about precise scheduals for the diesel 2-7 but for petrol models, servicing is at 10k, 20k, 30k intervals. After 30k, the next schedual is done to 10k spec, the next at 20k spec and so on.

Hi Andy.

The service intervals are oil and filter 15000 mls or every 12 months but i think if you took the car to a Jaguar dealer or Jag specialist they would not change the oil every year unles you asked them to ie or if you did very low milage as in my case.

I do all my servicing myself as i have a good size garage with a pit ect however there are some jobs i would leave to the dealer/specialist ie cam belt change/gearbox oil change/and rear pad replacement as you need special tools to do these jobs

Thanks Jeff, yes very useful. I am surprised they recommend 15000 miles betwenn oil changes ( or possibly longer?), I always thought diesel engines needed more frequent oil changes? I am definitely planning on going to an independent Jaguar garage, we have a couple of good ones here in Liverpool. The only downside is when you come to sell, for some strange reason people still seem to have a thing about main dealer servicing, though in my experience the service is worse than with a good independent.

On another issue, twice now I have had "Restricted Performance" appear on the display, and it feels as if turbos not working, still driveable but no oomph ! Stopping and switching off and on again cures the problem. I know a full DPF can cause it, but generally that comes up with a seperate message. Only happened twice and several months between.

Any ideas?

No idea but a freind of mine has a XJ diesel and he told me this happend to him and he took it for a blast on the moterway which cured the problem he said it had somthing to do with the sensers in the exhoust
system getting clogged up.

Give it a try there`s nothing to loose "appart from your liecence " if you go to quick

Hi All,

My 2007 plate 2.7d is due for its service now and although it has only covered 46000 miles it will need its 4 year 60k service. Does anyone know what this service involves? I have a few dealers and specialists and they all say fluids and filters and a few other things but these few other things are not specified. Don't want to spend a fortune on something that I can do myself
