Trim fasteners

Postby IanHolliday » Sun Sep 18, 2005 6:01 pm

Hi all XJS enthusiasts!
My 1993 convertible is missing several fasteners in the boot - the turn studs that fix the battery/hood pump cover and the push "screws" that hold the "carpet" trim on the underside of the boot lid. I would be grateful for any information on where to buy replacements, please. Colour is a sort of mushroom grey/brown, but I would be pleased to hear about any of any colour!!
I have just registered the car and uploaded a couple of photos - L 919 KWG. I tried looking at photos of other registered cars but those I chose seem to be rather large and take ages to download.
Thanks, hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Ian

Like you, I've been looking for a while and haven't found any, yet.

Let us know if you do turn up a source?

If the battery cover turnbuckles are the same as the pre-facelift, David Manners http://www.jagspares.co.uk/Manners/company.asp lists them as being in stock. Part number BD46140
I dont know about the carpet fasteners though, if you can find the part number David Manners or JDHT would be worth trying.

Unfortunately I think the facelift fasteners are colour coded to the carpet.

The part number is BEC18108.

None of the independents even list them and JDHT don't do parts for facelifts and although Jaguar dealers will list them, there is no stock and no delivery date. This situation seems just about universal for trim and body parts on the '92 on cars.

Depressing, isn't it?

I don't know how helpful this may be to either/all of you:the first Sunday of the month at Newark showground there is an auto jumble/car/motor spares Sunday market event.
I have seen/purchased all manner of otherwise difficult to source parts,(although I have to admit none for the XJS as yet)the trim fasteners/fabric/nuts/bolts/washers/screws/buttons/trim/finishers/and all manner of thrangleworts etc.I think best shut up before I get too carried away.
It is worth the trip, although niether of you are particularly close.
It would be a good "run out"though.
Hope this may help,Iwill try to find a contact No.or address for this site.
All the best Alistair.5.3 V12.

Thank you to you all for helpful comments. I'm not surprised at the "facelift shortage" posted by almcl, it bears out what I've experienced so far! David Mannners catalogue is worth a try though and the Newark "first Sunday" jumble sale is useful to know about - we're moving to the area so it will be more handy than alistair thought!!

So thanks again, but if anyone has a small stock of mushroom coloured fixings in their shed I would be pleased to hear from them!!! When you've supplied me with my modest needs for a really cheap price you can become a millionnaire seeling the rest to all the other desperate facelift owners at market rates!!!

Happy XJSing

Hi,

I got the battery cover fasteners from SNG Barrett.

However , during a period of repeated battery-discharge problems, I got tired of the rather weak & fiddly standard system & replaced it with two captive bolts through the existing metal framework, and an external polished aluminium plate, all held in place by two aluminium knobs, drilled & tapped to match the bolt threads. Sounds complicated- but it's fairly simple & gives a much stronger location & retention of the cover, than the standard sytem,

For Concours, it's replaceable with the standard system, in about 10 minutes.

I use simple 1" wide velcro strips to hold the battery cover in place - mated at the top to the rear boot-panel carpet, and to the metal frame at the bottom where the broken thingemy-buckles were. Works fine and I don't do concours !!
