Noise apparantly from the direction of the instrument panel

When switching the ignition on there is a noise from behind the dash that I can only liken to mice running. This is before the engine is started. On switching off, the noise is repeated, followed by a loudish click and the needles on the dash jerk. Any suggestions as to the problem?

If this noise was evident only on switching on, I would have suggested ABS pump charging BUT you say it also occurs on switching off....

Dunno.

Clean all the electrical connections and hope it goes away.

It works for me! :D

I had the identical noise and jerking of dials about 2 monts ago.

It was a time when the rain was excessive and also the cold weather. However, as the weather has cleared, so has the noise. I rekon it was water leaking in somewhere in the dash.

Thanks for the comments Chris, you could well be right, all now seems to be normal. Strange! Thanks again, Richard.
