sounds like worn bores does the compression increase if oil is poored down the spark plug hole prior to compression check if so its piston rings or worn bores if not you may have a burnt out valve (unlikely) unless you have LPG fitted

engine was never checked with oil down the bores.I spent 6500 on new engine and still had managment light come on 3 miles later.Proved to air flow meter.I was told by garage that engine was nicosil and told in writing from jaguar that it is steel.Warranty company dont want to know as they say condition must have been present when i bought the car.1 feed up jag owner after 3 months ownership

are you saying the original engine was Nikasil, and the replacement ' steel ' ?

the only way to tell is by the engine number , if it starts with an ' F ' then its a steel lined engine, and not Nikasil lined

if the engine number does not start with an F , then it is a Nikasil engine ,

Nikasil engines were stopped being made in late 1999 , but that doesnt mean that one didnt get into you 2000 car, you cant tell by the VIN number, only the engine number ,

you say you spent £6500 on a new engine, what happened to the warrantee, or was it a used engine, even so , it should still have at least 3 months , i would go to trading standards if this is the case

just a side note, Nikasil is better than steel lined, it was the sulphur content of pre year 2000 fuel that was the problem, it has been banned since 1999 ( sulphur in fuel that is ) and is unlikely that if you had a Nikasil engine that you would get compression problems due to this, just my thoughts ( and widely accepted with regard to our engines )

BB( 1999 Nikasil 4ltr Sovereign )
