New Arrival - 2nd Jaguar - 1st XJ308

Postby Gerry » Fri Nov 14, 2008 9:25 pm

Hello all,

Some 2 1/2 years ago, by chance, I read an extremely complimentary article on the XJ40. After a little more research, I purchased an immaculate low mileage 4ltr 1994 Sovereign, with full sevice history for what most of us would consider very little money for such a car. I can't praise the car highly enough. It's reliability and performance has been exceptional and it still looks as good as the day I bought it.

2 weeks ago I moved on to another immaculate Jaguar, again with low mileage and full main agent service history. This time it'a a 1999 XJR in silver with an ivory (I think) interior. Things don't get much better! The car is superb and virtually faultless. To say I'm impressed would be a massive understatement.

Fortunately, I have a very understanding wife who happily agreed to put her new kitchen on hold to allow me to purchase the XJR ( I exaggerate somewhat!). My only problem is when she found out how much the XJ40 was worth she told me in no uncertain terms I was not to sell it, that she would not have me 'giving the car away', so I now have to put up with owning two fantastic, but very different Jagaurs.

Regards

Gerry

Mike .......im becoming "joey no mates" as the Super 8s get fewer.....really these cars are a simply wonderful vehicle as you all know in here, but the 308s in general seem to be the forgotten marque in JEC circles........we need to push some 308 publicity up some JEC posteriors.
Any one got some unusual tales to tell ??? :?

Requests for new members

The last post or was it an appeal for tales to tell from new members seems to have fallen on deaf ears........now i do know we have had quite a few new members arriving since that last post.........maybe you have hibernated to your villas in Spain or in South Africa.
SO WHERE ARE THE "TALES TO TELL"
I need some input for the mag, we have a hard enough time watching what Nigel puts in the monthly pages, if i don't get any feedback i cant submit any X308 information and other outsiders get in on our act. So come on if you had a story along with your purchase let me know
It may not get a mention in the mag but you never know...that's out of my hands....but if i submit copy then it stands a chance of being in the next issue........... Joe...

hi to all i am a new member
i have had i good result on buying a 1998 xj8
i put a very low bid on this car and left it alone as it was addvertised as having intermiten gear box prob. A week later i get an email offering me car for less than my first bid so i take a chance and buy imaculate seagrass with full history but gear box prob
on driving car home she once strugled to engage 1st at lights however gear surround was cracked and scratched so i replaced this for £35 for a new one from ebay Happy days solved problem.
now the best thing about driving this beautiful cat is going past second hand car dealers and seeing a tatty old banger for more than i paid for what can only be described as stunning!!!

Chris thank you for the refreshing story on how you came by your car.....refreshing as we dont get any stories on these lines any more ...the forum is just to sort out problems it would seem ....we do however have a lively BB section within this forum. The build up of information relating to the problems that have occurred and some more that keep on developing from the original problems.....of course there will be more new problems and solutions as the mark develops within the forum.
Members are now finding out just how good this particular 308 is and with prices tumbling it now comes within reach of a new brand of Jaguar owner who for financial constraints find it harder to maintain their cars but never the less are just as keen or even keener to find easier and cheaper ways of keeping their cars in tip top condition.
This is what the forum is all about, so use it to your hearts content...from the Recommended Suppliers list to the BB or using the experts we have at our disposal........Enjoy...................joe
