Hello From South Yorkshire!

Hiya, I'm a recent recruit to the JEC despite owning and being a fan of big cats for a long time and it's all due to falling in love with this lovely chap back in April when my S-Type (lurking in the background of the photo) was in for servicing:

He's a minter '99 plate in phoenix red with only 30K on the clock. I'm hoping to keep him in the same condition and possibly pluck up courage to get to a few events if and when we get some summer weather!

I suppose having two makes me either greedy or a female John Prescott doesn't it?

Hopefully it's not too rude to ask a technical question on a first post but has anyone else experienced 'wandering wing mirror' trouble and is there an easy home-fix? The driver's side unit is sending me potty as it seems to drift in a couple of centimetres when I'm driving, just to the point where it's impossible to see anything but red XK - any advice would be appreciated!

Hello, Joza.

Welcome to the Forum. Your XK8 looks great. Well I have to say that, as I have an identical car!
'99 Phoenix red coupe with flute wheels. However, mine ain't no chap - with curves like that - it's all female!

I need to get her out but this rotten UK weather is giving me withdrawal symptons.. (She's never let out in the rain - got Egbert the Ford for that...).

Can't help with your mirror problem, though - sorry.

Michael

Hi Joza,
Welcome to the Forum.
If your car has the electric folding mirrors, the problem is not unknown and the cure may be simple. If the mirrors are knocked they can lose their position and drift. The answer is to take the mirror through a complete cycle of folding and unfolding. Alternatively, if the mirror has been damaged internally the stop may have been broken and the bad news is that replacement is the usual solution. Mike.

Welcome to the Forum, Joza :)
This is a great looking car you have there, just enjoy it whenever you can.
Yours has a very low mileage for the year and these cars need some good long stints of driving to keep them running well into old age.
Don't worry about rainy days - the car does not mind it

I think Mike has it about right regarding your mirror. I don't have powerfold mirrors on my 2000 XK8, but have never experienced something like you, so can't really add anything to it.
Hope you will get it sorted soon.

Cheers for this Mike - my car does have the electric mirrors and your fix worked a treat, they are rock solid now! :D
