Rather basic perhaps, since I have not repaired bodywork for many years, but can you help with the following:-
my 1990 xjs 3.6 coupe is dark red perhaps Bordeaux red. However how do i confirm which red was used since there appear to be quite a few?
where do I buy the appropriate cans of paint spray that can be despatched to France?
what is the best filler and undercoat, if nec, to use? its for the wheel arches. The rust is not 'too bad'.
thanks in advance

you should find your paint code on the stick on VIN label in the passenger door aperture , it should be just under the door catch on the body of the car, the paint code is in there, and consists of three letters
as for the filler and undercoat/primer, thats personal choice of whoever is painting, and or compatibility with the top coat ,
as a rule of thumb, the finer the filler the better, none of this stuff from the high street, go to the local paint/panel supplier and buy it wholesale

Thank you very much. Found the paint code immediately. What a Charlie not noting the label before.
CFA Regency Red and local car supermarket had that cade under jag in their list. Have ordered a number of spray cans at 9€ each which should arrive in three weeks. The shop bloke also helped me choose the appropriate filler etc.
So bonne chance and thank you once again for your help.

boots1234,
Glad you've been able to find out the paint code. Good luck with the prep and painting.
Now that you've found the paint and trim codes, it would be very helpful if you can enter your car in the register. I can't seem to see it under your userid. I apologise if I've missed it. Do please contact me if you have any problems with the registration process.
Tks

Hi Paul
Will do. Returned the register form, duly completed, some time ago but forgot to update BB. Apologies.

Boots1234,
Absolutely no apologies necessary. Most people won't realise that the form that was issued with the magazine was merely to get a rough sample across the members of what type of cars were held in the club.
The important mecahnism is to get all the member cars entered in the registers (some still to be developed). That's the reason that I keep banging on about it.
Tks again. Do let us know on the BB how the painting goes. I'm interested as to what quality can be achieved on our XJSs using aerosols / home-use products.
