Might seem a strange request but I'm using the Ferry from Orkney to Aberdeen soon and would like to lock the car as there will be stuff in the back and boot but the alarm is bound to be triggered if it's a rough journey, is it possible to lock without the alarm? The deck will be locked during the night but might not stop an opportunist passenger during loading and unloading.

I can't remember the exact sequence from when I had an X308, but there's a way to disable the tilt sensor for just that situation. I think it involves the Valet button, before you take the key out of the ignition and lock in the normal way. It's in the handbook, if you have one.

I have all the handbooks including the security system (where you would imagine it to be) but so far have failed to locate that nugget of wisdom.
I'll keep searching, otherwise it's down to trusting folk. We have very little crime around here but the grockles have started appearing!

from memory

you can ' lock ' the car with the key in the drivers door


this simply locks the car with no alarm system in operation


also

you can ' double lock ' the car with the key in the drivers door, this not only locks the car but activates the alarm etc

this is usually explained in the owners manual under locking

from memory , the remote always ' double locks ' the car

When I had my 3.2 X308 I often locked the car with the key but when unlocking you had to be pretty quick to get the key in the ignition otherwise the alarm went off, so was that just the intrusion part of the alarm and the tilting sensors would not be active? I still seem unable to locate the relevant section in any of the handbooks but it is not in the Security booklet.

If I lock with the key as suggested and give the car a right good rocking will that be definitive? Bearing in mind it weighs nearly two tons and I am still well under two hundredweight!

Off out test these theories now!

Despite 3 weetabix I was unable to rock the car sufficiently to trigger any alarms. With a window down and all locked up and waving my arm inside it went off like a good un. I'm not confident enough to know for certain that a rough sea journey will not have me dragged from my bed at some ungodly hour to silence the damn thing or left with a red face and a flat battery the following morning. Perhaps the tilt sensor only detects being forced against its will up the ramp of a low loader?
