key fob issues

help guys, please. sorted xj8 se so that it goes into fob programing mode no problem, battery replaced should have bought a decent one
hey ho. go through the whole cleaning fobs process yet again check batteries again with mulimeter start all over. guess what not a squeak when doing the buttons on the fobs. as said before one origional one replacement but both stopped working at the same time. so car being the suspect hey? looked on forum past history of similar faults etc. checked im doing procedure correctley still no joy. fingaz fobs dissapered some clowns in solvinia selling fobs same ads for months at silly money and of course we dont know if they even work .think i need some encourage ment new advice or buy a austin allegro_ rust buckets but simple.!!!!! look forward to some dits that might help. mark.

You say: "checked batteries again". There's two types of fob -- earlier carried two CR2032 cells one sitting on top of the other as shown in the drivers' book. Later fobs had only one cell (mine '01MY) I found two cells wedged in one of my fobs when there should've been only one. That fob was intermittent (both cells were duff anyway)

hi richard, checked both of the early fobs battery intalation correct 2x cr 2016 pos side down still no programing. checked the two later ones
1x 2032 pos side down, all voltages correct etc still no joy. surely i cant have 4 fobs that dont work must be an issue with the car God Knows what. Havent got any hair left..........thing

This is what I used when my programming on the Sport went awry:
Key Fob re-Programing for XJ6 and XJ8
The battery is a single CR2032 cell that’s placed positive (+ is the bigger side diameter) down into the plastic battery bottom (not the buttons’ side), of the FOB’s case.
Early FOBs have the prefix LJA, whilst later cars use the LJE version. The programing technique is quite straightforward:
1, Make sure that little flap in the ignition barrel closes inside the hole -- if it is sluggish or stuck then a little lock lube and working the key in and out a few times usually does the trick. This flap must be shut otherwise the locking module will think there is a key in and not allow the system to go into learning mode.
2, Get into the car with the key and remotes to hand and make sure ALL doors, bonnet and boot are properly closed.
3, Pull the headlamp flasher stalk towards the steering wheel and hold there.
4, Now put the ignition key in and turn to position 1 (ACC with no dash lights on)
5, Release the headlamp flasher and flash FOUR more times -- the tell-tale LED on the left of the “J” gate gear selector should flash ONCE
6, Now press the lock button on the remotes a total of FIVE presses (one remote 5 times. For two remotes, 3 presses on one and 2 presses on the other, etc. The “J” gate LED will flash at each button press.
7, Remove the ignition key and the “J” gate LED will flash ONCE more as it is taken out.
That's it -- job done!

Worked for me

Others have found that the old trick of rubbing a soft pencil lead on the push button rubbers gives them some life back. Haven't tried that on my key fobs. But did use it to get an old TV remote to switch on. It worked for
a few weeks but became more and more erratic -- old TVs' remotes are only a fiver nowadays

okay all of you for advice many thanks .now read all the posts on this issue.however this might be of help to someone that knows. the b---dy
sounder.it kept going off all of its own accord some years ago, usually after me washing the bitch pressure washer. off to garage i went
£ later no more problem fobs still working happy days. having served in her majesty's --- i dont believe in coincedences. on checking my immaculate collection of manuals i checked and cleaned all fuses and sockets the last fuse box left front and behold the one for the sounder
removed and laying in the box if this is not charged/working can this affect these issues? possibly the back up batteries have now gone completely flat. do i put fuse back in and see what happens? Or keep the next doors cats awake, ohh dear

at last to any one thats still interested. had car checked on the com
puter. not recognise key fobs.so fault in the module.
invested in 2nd hand working unit from Les. fitted and happy days..
