I was looking for a detailing section, hopefully this interior board is ok to use, I have been converted to Maguires Carnuba Wax by some of the guys at an XK8 day that I went to a couple of years ago. I'm happy to use decent stuff from Autoglym or Maguires and I was just wondering what everyone uses for cleaning the interior dash, and door cards etc. I usually use a silicone based spray to bring up a shine as I don't personally mind the sweet smell, however I'm wondering if a matt look is better.... any hints, tips or recommendations welcome. Thanks

I use Johnson's Pledge Original...used to be called "Clean & Dust"...now called something slightly different...for the woodwork.
For the door cards and trim....if leather,wipe with a clead damp (not wet) leather....... or Gliptone products if needed.
If Ambla a damp leather will usually do,but if grubby a Halfords vinyl cleaner.

i find ' Mr Muscle ' kitchen cleaner works perfectly on the leather and ambla parts of the dash and seats,

simply squirt on, leave for a few mins, and wipe off with a clean damp cloth

this product seems to really lift the dirt from the creases etc without leaving any residue on the surface,

and more importantly , it does not turn the leather slimy or discolour it

as with any of these products, test an small out of the way area first, before spraying it into the middle of your dash or seat

i then maintain with ' matt ' finish dash wipes that are available

as a brother to a car painter/finisher , i understand the importance of staying away from any product with ' silicon ' in it, it will find its way onto your paintwork and will never come off, this product is actually banned from most workshops as it ruins new paint by causing ' fish-eyes' in new paint,
it finds its way over 30 mtrs from the vallet shop to the paint shop by floating in the air

Jaguars "Vehicle Care Handbook" specifically advises against the use of household cleaners on leather.
I agree on the avoidance of silicone based products......on paintwork.Johnsons original is beeswax based and has very little or no silicone in it....fine for woodwork.

the highway code says the speed limit is 70mph on motorways, but how many Jaguar owners stick to that ' rule ' ??

its all about common sense, and what works, it would not be in my interest to mislead other Jaguar owners into ruining their interiors........

automotive cleaning products are way more expensive then ' domestic ' cleaning products, but usually its only just a label away from being a different product

i buy leather treatment products for my three piece suite to use in the car....tell me what the difference is ?

If you do use kitchen cleaners on your car (or any household product) read the small print on the back before starting - on the back of a Mr Muscle multi surface cleaner I have here there is a warning not to use it on materials unsuitable for wet cleaning such as 'velvet' type materials, brocade, leather, oriental rugs or silk. Personally I use Gliptone on the seats on both my car and my dads 75, I do use ordinary household furniture polish on the wood and door panels and give the carpets and mats a going over with some foam stuff (that I can't remember the name of) given to me by a mate who valets cars. Glass gets done with whatever glass cleaner is about, or more often than not, simple good old newspaper and water

It depends these days on what type of leather you have in the car......
The old "leather seats" were what the name says leather with a dye for colour..........then we had smooth leather "piped" this was basically the same........the recognised method of cleaning was to use a small softish nail brush with some liquid soap or shampoo and warm water taking care not to soak the leather too much and wiping off with a damp cloth.....
This preperation work was standard ....then you applied the leather "feeder" rubbed well into the leather to keep it soft and supple.
Most of these products were by Connolly Hide products and were used to great effect...........but now we have leathers like i have which is Autoluxe leather .....a high quality leather put into the top end Jags and Daimlers covered in a poly something coating....this is sprayed on from new .....and it doesnt like water splashing around it either (as i found out) other wise it "melts " the coating to a paste which then leaves areas where the coating has come off....too late if that has happened.......you then need professional help.....a man in a van will call and smooth out any scuffs ect then he will take your code number of the colour (like the paint code for the outside) and proceed to spray the swab back to colour......if it doesnt match the seat backing he will spray that to colour.......then the next seat and so on..........not cheap either may i add.........or contact Gliptone they have every colour to match every Jag made then sell you a complete kit for a DIY job.........im assured this is a good option and of course a much cheaper one too.......depending on what standard you require.
After twelve years as in mine even with a lot of looking after, the colour of the seats will be different from new...so be prepared for more than one area to spray...........When done correctly it is superb....."like new".
Now sfter finding out all that i have found a leather cleaner that does clean without melting the coating.......its the Autoglym Leather Cleaner ...applied to the cloth first then wipe the leather with the cloth...wipe off with a DAMP not wet cloth then a clean dry ...terry towel.

After hearing about the Gliptone range of products for leather seats including the Autolux leather type, i ventured to the Gliptone base in Todmorden.
After some friendly chat on the subject a bought a repair kit for my Ivory Autolux seats..........the damage that had been done in the past was rectified with one application of the product. Using the cleaner then the restorer which was a dead match made my seats look "back to new"..........then adding the feeder to finish the job i would reccomend the product after personally using it............. ......Joe
