Front Centre Ash Tray Lid

Postby Mike1932 » Thu Feb 25, 2010 8:59 pm

For no apparent reason the lid of the front centre ash tray will not stay in the CLOSED position. Is there a spring clip which may have broken - and if so, how do I access it? How big a "lump" do I need to source to make it work? Any guidance much appreciated.

ah

the dreaded lid wont stay down problem, well known to i'm afraid

its a broken clasp , and can only be really fixed with a replacement, but are mega bucks from Jaguar, and even on ebay if you can find the ' repair kit '

access means taking of the gear selector surround and the ski-slope to access the screws , the whole unit will come out as one with the cigar lighter, so the loom will need unplugging

if your really stuck pm me, i have a brand new one waiting for the day mine fails......

Thanks for that BB. I happen to known that the local Jag Specialist I use has an X308 from which he "rabbits" spare parts - and the ash tray is in working order! The only problem is that the trim colour is wrong. His is 'cream' or 'doeskin'; mine is 'warm charcoal', otherwise known as 'black'.

Is it a simple job for the two lids to be interchanged? That would be the best answer, though I suppose painting his to the right colour using leather dye could be an alternative.
