Neither Cigarette Lighter Socket Working

My Tom-Tom died on the way home yesterday because no power was coming from the cigarette lighter. I tried the one in the rear to no avail either.

Today looking at the manual I found what I believe to be the fuse in the fusebox behind the near side rear seat. It looked fine but I changed it anyway. They do not seem to be clearly numbered but as the second from last one it seemed logical that it was close to the end of the fuse box blank.

This has made no difference, neither cigarette lighter socket works..

Any ideas please as to what else to check?

Jon .......the fuse box in the boot near the battery is the fusebox where the cigar lighter fuses are situated.....fuse number 5.....25amps

Oh dear, found the space in question. There was no fuse in there at all (should have been a clue).

Put the first one in and tried something - pop.
Put a second one in and same thing - pop.

So there is a short or something somewhere stopping the cigar light circuit from working.

Any more ideas, or next stop auto-electrician?

Jon dont mess with electrics........Auto Electrician......preferably a Jaguar specialist if possible....there could be a common fault only they would know about........look in the box where you log in and look in there for your nearest Jaguar specialist........its worth the trip...joe

A thorough clean out of the front cigar lighter socket eventually unearthed a tiny little grub screw which had clearly been causing a short. Once this was removed and a new fuse put in it works just fine!

So satisfying to solve even what turn out to be the simpliest of problems!

It really does show what can happen to cause problems........interesting to find this sort of thing .......you would never think anything like this to look for...........good post.........Joe
