Door wood trim defect - how to deal with it

Postby Davidqhog » Sun Nov 26, 2023 7:16 pm

Hi folks,

My Daimler has a tiny (about 4mm x 2mm) gouge in the driver's door wood panel. I'm guesing it's from the seat belt buckle hitting the wood over and over again.
It looks like one of those small dirty areas you get from something sticky on the wood but it definitely has a depth to it, about 1mm.

Is there any way to deal with this myself by filling and polishsing (I saw A. J. P.s post about changing the veneers to a darker shade)? Or should i find a craftsman?

TIA

The defect feels like it's just the lacquer coat that's missing. It's not very deep at all, probably less than 1mm. Attached photo shows it, the dark smudge just to the right of the handle;
