rear view mirror Daimler v8

Hello everybody! Well I finally did it - I bought a Daimler V8 4.0 2002 today. Trust me to find the worst driving conditions for 20 years to bring it home from Bristol to Bedford - around 130 miles. Temperature ranging from 0 to 3, and raining all the way. I even had to back it up a narrow ditch lined hill for half a mile at 7pm because the road was blocked - and it was a joy to drive in spite of all that. No doubt I will find issues to ask for guidance on, but one mildly annoying thing was evident during this journey - the rearview mirror looked as if it had severe condensation on it, but I couldn't wipe it off. Closer inspection revealed that a horizontal strip about half inch wide at the bottom was perfectly clear. Anyone got any ideas?
