underbody and chassis

hi everyone just joined start of august and find a lot of good reading and info. bodywork wise my xjr imac but have a few very slight issues on inner wings area ect maybe a good idea to speak to alan proctor before it becomes a prob.just like to ask if anyone else had underbody treated and would value their veiws cheers steve and tina

Steve i can reccomend the under body treatment at Alan Proctors i had mine done and Dave had his done..a few have had it done there...top job give Alan a ring first and make the booking....Joe

Recently joined new member so not sure if I should take up this old thread or start a new topic. My 1999 XJ8 3.2 Auto (52,000 miles) has been owned by me since 2000 and regularly serviced by excellent local garage. But it has been off road for 2 plus years and came through MOT recently with advisory recommendation for underbody corrosion repair and treatment in several areas. Whilst I trust the work of my garage who do support classic car repairs, I would welcome tips on what I should ask them about the kind of work and treatment that they will do on the rust corrosion. I have read mixed reports on different kinds of rust treatment, rust conversion and sealing etc. I am not an expert. I have made the commitment to see this car through the long term (84 years old myself and only been a driver since 1957 - first car was a 1935 Morris . Hope someone can help - David

Had similar on my 98 Xk8. I decided to take it to a garage specialising in rust treatment, they have coated underneath in waxoyl or similar, and I am trying to just use it in dry weather, I am sure I could do a lot more, but I want to use the car not tuck it away, so my view is keep it going as long as possible. They did say that they could do some welding in the future if needed. If I planned to mothball it then I might do more, but that’s not my thing. I guess it depends how much you want to spend, you are never going to get back what you spend on it..
