Adjusting the drivers door

Postby heebee » Tue Feb 02, 2010 12:38 pm

Does anyone know how to adjust a door on an XJ8? My driver's door has dropped a little, and the seal catches on the top of the B pillar as a result. Once the door is closed, it looks OK, but I think its being lifted by the seal/jamb as it closes.

Do I have to undo the bolts that mount the hinges on the A pillar, or is their any adjustment in the pins?

HEEBEE i think you adjust the door at the lock plate..........large Phillips screws i believe, half loosen them and use a rubber hammer to tap the lock up or down until you get the adjustment to your liking......although i have never done my 308 thats the way i used to adjust preivious models

Thanks for that, although I'm pretty sure the actual lock and catch are set correctly. The door has dropped a little, but when it makes contact with the lock, it lifts it to the correct position.

Unfortunately, by then the seal has already made contact with the top of the b pillar!

You might be good at cleaning your car but no good when it comes to adjusting doors, so stick to cleaning your car Joe.

You need to adjust the door on the hinges at the 'A' pillar, if you adjust the catch it will throw the lining of the door out.
