Power steering fluid

Postby ray0034 » Sun Jan 25, 2009 11:50 am

I use my car occasionally (done 125000 miles N plate) and did so yesterday for the first time for 2 weeks. The power steering quite suddenly did not work. On checking the resorvoir dipstick this morning i found it dry!

Do i just refill with DEXRON 111 fluid or is this likely to be something more serious?

hi, nd welcome

first of all , your in the wrong place, and 'N' reg car is an X300 and not the V8 engine X308 ( this forum)

however, your problem is not type specific,

if the reservoir is dry , i would get underneath and try to find any broken or leaking pipes before you fill it back up, as you may just be pouring brand new fluid onto the floor ,

the fluid does not ' evaporate ' so, you must have a leak

hope this helps

Thanks , senior moment . car is 1997 reg with private N plate. no obvious sign of leakage but will check again.
