Just after starting my 2002 X308 whether stationary or driving there is a very strong smell of raw petrol within the car. It seems to come from the rear and does eventually clear.
My mechanic has checked it over and can find no leaks and advises the breather is clear. Can anyone please advise what might be causing this problem please.

Re: SMELL OF PETROL
If there is no apparent fuel leak, it might be worth checking that all of the sealing bungs in the boot are in good order in case, exhaust fumes are entering the cabin. Mike.

nichot747713,
Also check the boot seal and potentially the rear light mount to the body. Very easy for initial startup exhaust which will be fuel-rich to seep back into the boot.
