Speed Rating

Postby NewCat » Wed Jun 09, 2010 10:10 am

Does anyone know what speed rating/s were used OEM on XJ8s or what fits the manufacturers minimum requirements?

Logic indicates to me that the load rating (i.e. 96) is the most important factor to reflex the heavy weight of the car as W rated tyres are tested up to 168 mph - not necessitating Y rated (186 mph) tyres.

Thanks,

Jon

Details of Jaguar recommended tyres for the various X308 models can be found in the Handbook.
Be warned though.....insurance companies regard fitment of the appropriate spec. tyres as a "primary safety issue" and you fit lower spec tyres at your peril.

My handbook only lists Y- rated tyres (capable of 186 mph!) but it is a 2002 car (last year of production). Is this the case in all handbooks or only the later ones?

I sense Pirelli P6000s moved from being W rated to Y rated tyres during the production cycle and that W rated tyres with correct load rating would be more than satisfactory - and that anything else would not be considered as a reasonable condition of insurance...

Does anyone know / have W-rated P6000s on their car?

Thanks

I have a 98 reg'd LWB Sovereign. I have Pirelli P6000's on all four corners with a 98W speed rating. My handbook refers only to recommended manufacturer and tyre size for a variety of wheel options but there is no reference to speed rating.

DREDRU.........if your tyres are rated as W rated that is for vehicles up to 168 MPH..........so you should be OK with those...Joe
