Tyre wear

Although I had two computerised geometry checks over a period of several months, the front tyres on my 1997 XJ8 were wearing badly and had to be replaced. The wear was on the inside of both tyres whilst the outside edges had plenty of tread left. A number of kind sources gave me suggestions but none applied to my case. My local garage proposed a "parallel" alignment in contradiction to the alignment specified in the data of the geometry machine. After a further 12,000 miles, I am pleased to report symetrical wear. Also, the wear appears to be much less on the Michelins now installed, compared with the Pirellis that I have hitherto used.

William........i had that on my XJ40.........i took it to a garage with the laser based geometry machine, then had to take it back as the tyres were not wearing even.
Evidently the back alignment adjustment on Jags is different to the front, it has to be adjusted separately or in a different way......so the guy who did the second adjustment said.
A lot depends on the guy who uses all this equipment, same with the engine software.........if anyone finds the correct procedures for wheel alignment please post the results, tyres for these cars are an expensive item. Joe
