hi guys need a bit of advise. driving along last week when trac not available came up on message board and abs symbol came on. pulled up after about 1 mile switched off and resarted. all clear and not had any prob since. other than abs light somtimes stays on for few seconds after all others have gone out.but if memor y serves me right this has always done this on the odd occasions! any one think this a problem or maybe just a one off

The abs light is supposed to stay on after the ignition is started and will go off at about 10 mph.
Spurious trac light and abs can be caused by a number of things including dodgy abs sensor connections on wheels.
If it's not happening any more, I think the prob has gone away so I'd just keep your fingers crossed!

The abs light is supposed to stay on after the ignition is started and will go off at about 10 mph.

I would get you car looked at if it is doing that. It isn't normal.
From the handbook:
A bulb check cycle is initiated when the ignition is switched on and lasts for 3 to 4 seconds. If any warning light remains on, investigate the cause before driving.

I checked the handbook and you're right. My light just seems to take longer than 3 secs to go out. But as it always goes out (and the ABS is definitely functioning), I'm happy with it. Probably because many other cars work on the 8-10 mph principle, I just assumed that the XJ8 was doing the same. My XJS & Range Rover also work like that. Tks for pointing it out anyway.

hi all . not having problem with trac control on message board at moment .but abs light still staying on from time to time .bearing in mind car stuck in garage all week now cold weather here. joe know what you mean about battery getting low have had that prob before? ive got new one on plus when its not in use have got c_tech smart charge on
