I've noticed that the nearside front flexible brake hose on my '98 XJR is chafing against the shock absorber when the steering is on a hard left-hand lock. This didn't look right, so I checked the offside caliper as a comparison. The flexible hose on the offside is routed entirely differently and goes nowhere near the shocker. In fact the difference is where the flexible hose joins the caliper: on the nearside the connection faces forward, towards the shock absorber, whilst on the offside it faces backward. I can see that the N/S/F caliper has been replaced at some time, presumably with the wrong part. However, the N/S caliper does have 'Jaguar' stamped on it and in all other respects looks the same. The first image is the N/S/F caliper, and the second image is the O/S/F.
If I order a new caliper from David Manners, and go for JLM21470R, will this be the correct part? I appreciate the 'R' suffix means this is a non-genuine item, but it's £102 and the Jaguar caliper is over five hundred quid..! The N/S/F caliper currently fitted is stamped 272-9 and on a label still attached to it there is another number: OM38292 385414 As I say, the caliper is also stamped 'Jaguar'. I don't want to order another incorrect part.
