Which oil in differential

Postby kenb » Sat Jul 31, 2010 5:00 pm

Hi Everyone

I'm a new member with a lovely low mileage ego massaging XJ8 Sport in Carnival red.

My last big cat was a Daimler Double Six a long time ago. A fearsome fuel devouring beast but exquisite in its own way.

My 3.2 V8 givs me exhilarating acceleration, supreme comfort and 'gentleman's club' elegance - and recently returned 27mpg on a 980 mile holiday to Fort William.

I have, however, noticed that there is a leak from the differential oil seal. Not enough to drip on the drive but clearly, the fault has existed for some time.

Topping up is obviously required but as the diff. is 'sealed for life' I can not find official recommendations. I have discovered that Shell Spirax Super TS90 was Jaguars choice but it doesn't seem to be obtainable.

Do any members know of an equivalent?

Many thanks

Kenb

David Marks replies :-

"We use a Millers equivalent, TRX Synth, I think it is called.

If he goes to a specialist lubricant supplier, they should have data sheets with the vehicle specs and can provide the correct oil."
