J-gate lock up

Postby MTDJAG » Fri Apr 30, 2010 9:06 pm

HI, what are the possible causes for having the J-gate locked in park? Brake is pressed and brake light comes on but still not possible to move the lever. Any suggestions?

there is a solenoid in the J-gate that fails

remove the ' star ' stud on top of the J-gate, insert the key to release the solenoid manually

not too expensive to replace

Great to know, thanks! but how is the solenoid replaced by just removing the star stud on top of the J-gate? is it not necessary to remove some of the assembly around the shifter to get access to the solenoid?

Thanks in advance for clarifiation :)

erm....... you kinda missed the point ?

you remove the star stud to over-ride the interlock so you can get home, etc

to replace the interlock , you have to remove the gear selector surround etc ,

Hi again, thanks for all responses. Consequently to the first failure of the J-gate lock up, now also the electric mirrors, interior and boot lighting has failed. It seems the issue is the Body Processing Module which I now need to replace... :(

stand a good chance, I would suggest a scan of the car , you will need someone with Autologic, or Jaguar IDS to give you a full interogation

Its possible too the old chestnut....a low battery/ or dead cell ......could be the problem too.......run some jump leads across just to try starting the car....
