i have purchased a 1997 xj8 3.2 sport with 50,000 genuine(i believe)miles on the clock.the auto box changes perfectly but "whines/whirrs" as it changes up and down and the noise seems to go away when it is in top gear.is this common to this type of gearbox or am i just being too fussy.i have looked everywhere for similar cases but cannot find any information on this.other than a few other age related rattles i think the car is great.if anyone has any ideas i would be very grateful, thanks.
new member, some advice needed please, auto box whining!

Whining gearbox
Mikey.........its one of those things where because of the sealed for life type of gearboxes its not supposed to be a fluid leak but keep your eye on the garage floor just in case .........it could be low on fluid.
Maybe, its worth contemplating having a gearbox overhaul if you are intending keeping the car,or at best a replacement box fitted.....an email to Dave Marks could come up with the solution.......Joe
