Hi all,
as the transmission in XJRs is manufactured by Mercedes(and cannot use the lubricants for ZF-gearboxes) made me wonder, what the actual specification for tranny oil in XJRs is? Just standard Dexron II/III or?
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
thank you for your reply.
Actually I did read the article, but for me the expression "standard ATF" does seem a bit vague. I am aware that Dexron type is very common, but there's also the Type F -fluid. Additionally, for Dexron, there are currently types II and III. Don't want to slice hairs here - just want to be sure.
Let me formulate the question differently: What is considered to be standard ATF in the UK?
Cheers,

Ok, spent some hours searching for data - found out that many Chrysler and Jeep models also use the same gearbox. Additionally, even a Porsche Carrera Tiptronic uses the same tranny. Some data:
Gearbox model is M-B W5A580/722.6, which uses the M-B specification 236.10 for oil. I found confusing "facts" in many charts, but Porsche, being a small manufacturer and does not have their "own" oils, recommends using Shell ATF 3403-M115 oil.
This oil fully meets the M-B 236.10 spec and leads me to believe it's actually the same oil as M-Bs own.
