X308 ATF temp sensor?
Rest assured still following, though would not surprise me if you had given up on it, 10/10 for persistence!

Re: X308 ATF temp sensor?
It was the Crank Sensor that was intermittently giving up when warm. Apparently new crank sensors aren't any good. So Greg put in a second hand one. And it starts first time, every time now -- even when hot
BTW, is there a gearstick knob that matches the deeper colour walnut wood grain of the dash? Seems a bit incongrous to have two different wood colours in the cabin
Filled up with Shell V-Power that's got the cleaner in it -- the third fill. But it's £1.679 per litre! The advantage is that if it's a car you don't know the difference in price means you get the extra performance for free and saves buying a couple of bottles of Forte Clean. This is still on 68k miles-ish. On the 99RON it don't half go! Within the legal limits of course

Re: X308 ATF temp sensor?
richard582,
Glad to hear you got it sorted. Like lambda sensors, crank sensors need to be viewed as items with a limited life that will need periodically changing. So a used sensor should be treated with caution. I'm sure that new Jaguar or genuine OEM new crank sensors are absolutely fine. Perhaps your mechanic was referring to some of the cheaper pattern sensors that are out there on the market.
Cheers
Paul

Re: X308 ATF temp sensor?
Yes, he was referring to aftermarket Crank Sensors -- apparently has had experience of this
Now looking for a matching gear knob with the dash.
I've also had a crank sensor go on the Maserati Quattroporte with the Ferrari F136 UC 4.2 litre V8 (same engine as the Ferrari California) At 94k miles. Except it took Mas specialists 7½ hours to change it, plus inlet manifold gaskets and other bits. That one could flatten the battery before catching. And then not do it for months. Ferrari main agents say it shouldn't have taken more than four hours

Hi Richard,
Have you tried Myrtle Ltd,they do a gear knob, here's the link:
https://www.myrtleltd.com/product-page/ ... edium-dark
If it's no good you could try eBay but they seem a bit pricey on there.
Good luck.
Take care.
