Hi Guys
I wonder if anyone can help with a problem i am having with my newly aquired 2000 XJR.

When driving, engine has cut out, both amber and red warning lights are lit and the following is displayed in sequence
Low Brake Fluid
ASC not available
Gearbox fault
Engine Failsafe mode

Engine will not start again for some minutes (usually 5-10), if ignition is tried, rev counter flicks up to aprox 1000 rpm then returns to zero and the above faults are once again shown on the dash display.

This has now happened 5-6 times, does not seem to be weather related as car has died in both wet and dry conditions

New fault has now shown up yesterday, car cut out as above but this time was accompanied by the air con display showing ER and beeping three beeps then pause then three beeps and the windscreen wiper made a single pass across the screen.

Any help with this one would be greatly apreciated
Many Thanks
Pete

Pete I know i go on about this, but once again have the battery checked for a dead cell, simplist options first, not to mention cheapest.
The technicle side is a no no for me but so many guys have these faults on the displays and so many are battery linked.
If that doesnt cure it get some pro help with diagnostic equipment.....Joe :?

this is a well known problem caused by a weak battery,

replace it with the right type and everything should clear up just nice

and a point about buying one.......

Get it from jaguar, it will be the right shape and type, and it will also be about £20 cheaper than buying one from Halfords and such like, i think they come in around the £60 mark

although i have changed the battery for a new heavy duty replacement i will purchase a factory replacement type battery and see how that works.p.s have called grange motors and been quoted £104+vat will let you know if that does the job

my car eventully stopped working and even leaving the car overnight did not help so its off to an auto electricans in witham essex to hopefully sort out this persistant problem at least if the fault is constant it should help to locate this annoying little glitch.

p.s my other jaguar is a 1967 420 which is a piece of cake to fix regardless of the faults.so much for progress when even jaguars cannot sort out there own problems concerning their car electrics
