Reversing Sensors For X308

Last week I cleaned my Reversing Sensors mainly because there was white polish in the crevices and that was bugging me,
after that they started playing up and then just a continuous tone for 7 seconds and then nothing until the next outing :( ,
anyway found the faulty one and set about getting another, could not believe the price of them from the Jaguar parts suppliers I use.
 A bit of research and I found out that Renault Laguna II Citroen C5 Peugeot 607 807 Part number : 602.412 / 602.356.14
9639945580 / 8200049263
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from ... 3&_sacat=0
are exactly the same even down to the shape of the centre piece for £14.99 could of got one for £10.00 from Hong Kong but wanted it sooner than about a month.
So it came and I popped it in and they all work again so very pleased with that 8) .
They are very easy to get out, just feel behind and you'll feel the electrical connector and then the clips that hold the sensor in(I think there is two)bend one at a time and push the sensor from the outside at the same time, might take more than one go but persevere it will come out then just unclip the connector or you could take the connector off first but I found that harder due to quite large hands and didn't want to break anything.
Hope this helps someone save a few £'s in the future  .
Take Care.

Thank you for your excellent post

More out of curiosity than being a tight wad (yeah right  ) I got the cheepest reverse park sensor kit off eBait about two years back coz someone there was saying the park sensors used on the B6 VW Passat series were exactly the same as cheepos from HK. And voila! Used one (plug different and about 1mm greater in diameter) and all worked. VW's prices are dafter than Jag's, they double if you want them colour coded to your vehicle  Course, due all the other controversy surrounding VAG Group, no one in their right mind is buying them now.

Your post was just a few hours too late for my newest XJ8 though, have just paid £61.41 +VAT for another from Hyper XJ :|

If you're still able to get your ear down to that level (and get up again  ) you may find which sensor is faulty by hearing whether each has a soft click coming from it with system activated. The Passat's sensors do that, I don't know about this Jag style though (?)

From a note I kept previously, I think this is the Parking Sensor Control Unit (Parking Aid)

Hi Richard, yes that's right they do make a clicking or ticking sound, sorry you had to pay that much for your's.
Hope things are going well with the new XJ8,
I've seen a few cheap one's on eBay recently, always tempting but ones enough at the moment(I think).
Take Care.

The sounder on the X308 is difficult to find and diagnose as faulty.
I found that the sounder is connected on pins 2 and 10 on the buff plug on the electronics module in the boot (trunk). The wires are colours red and blue
One may check the sounder with an Ohm meter connected across the pins. It should read about 52 ohms. mine was open circuit.
The sounder is a very common item used on Fords and VW as well as others and is available at much reduced price than from Jaguar. The part number on the sounder is 3W83-15K864-AA.
I replaced the sounder by mounting safely in the boot and tapped wires into the red and blue using sheath piercing connectors.
This saved me having to remove the interior to find the original.
All is working fine now.
Hope that helps others as it seems to be a frequent problem

Hi Kenxj8.
Thanks for the info on the sounder, that will surely be of help to someone in the future.
When my sounder stopped working I found the original sounder is located under the rear parcel shelf.
But not accessible from the boot so the rear seats have to come out to get the parcel shelf out to get to the sounder.
Your solution involves a lot less messing about.
Thanks again and take care.

Hi Mark,
The module is mounted in the boot near the battery.
The sounder is mounted under the rear parcel shelf where the high level brake light is.

Here is the wiring for the system and parking aid information.

Hope that helps.

Hi Andy thanks for the diagram, it has helped at least to track the rear loom for continuity to each plug and a good wiggle to check for broken conductors. Next stop earth connections. Then how do i test the sounder? It makes the consistant 7 secs I am not working correctly sound. however I aint found the damm thing.

Hi Mark,
It is underneath the rear parcel shelf.
You have to remove the shelf to get to the speaker.

Hope that helps.

If you are getting the long beep the sounder is fine, (it's just a loudspeaker) and if you are sure they are all 'ticking' when in reverse then I think the problem has to be the module itself in the boot area.
