BB,
You're right about the ignition key. I didn't mention that because you only know that the lever won't move if you've got the key in the ignition anyway! I always thought it was a strange way for Jaguar to suggest how to solve the problem, hence my screwdriver suggestion.
The idea about the boot still being at fault is a good shout. Just because something has apparently been fixed doesn't mean the problem won't come back!

Re: Doors not locking
Gear selector issue. Yes with your directions I moved the selector out of park but as soon as I put it back in, it locked! Brake lights are working fine, it is dark now and the car is under my carport which doesn't have any lights so weather permitting I will take a look at fuses tomorrow and do another inspection of wiring.
Door locking. This is unreal, today I fitted another 15amp fuse and tried the fob to lock the car for the night, the drivers door DID lock but NONE of the others did? tried the fob and the key to unlock the drivers door and it wouldn't, I had to go in through the passenger door and use the inside handle, I checked the fuse and sure enough it was blown. Does it still sound like a fault with the drivers door micro-switch?
Thanks again Yelnats

Re: Doors not locking
I managed some time on the car at the weekend and with your help I believe I have now resolved all issues, a new fuse cured the selector locking problem, and I have traced the door locking difficulties down to the lock on the drivers side passenger door, I have disconnected all wiring in this door until I get a replacement lock.
Yes BB there must have been trouble with the boot loom as several wires had been reconnected at some time using a sleeve connector nipped onto the wires, one of these was not done well and the wire pulled out easily, I fixed it with a soldered joint insulated and wrapped up neatly with all the rest in a position less prone to acute flexing.
Thanks again, Yelnats.

Re: Doors not locking
yelnats,
Glad to hear that you're getting there. It's very often teh drivers door lock which causes a car to lock then unlock etc. Before you buy a new lock, see if you can isolate the problem. The typical problems are:
- chafed wires at the A-post entrance grommet
- loose wires on the microswitch
- misadjustment on the connector rods to the internal lever
-failed microswitch
The lock itself is mechanical so it isn't usually that.
A bit of time with teh doorcard removed and some logical investigation will avoid you buying bits unnecessarily.
Good luck
Paul
PS Any joy on the gear selector? At least you know now how to get it out of Park so the car can be driven.

Re: Doors not locking
Paul,
OK I will carry out a thorough investigation once I have removed the door card, as mentioned this door has been isolated electrically (but still works manually) and I have had no trouble with any others locking/unlocking since.(I would have put a smilie here but don't know how)
I also don't know what caused the selector lock problem but a new fuse seems to have cured it.
Cheers,
Stan.
