Auxiliary Power
I know there is an auxiliary power supply on the XK8 behind the glove box but does anyone know if there is one located on the XJ8. I have taken out my glove box on the XJ8 and found that there is none located there.
Re: Auxiliary Power
Hi Doug,
It could be behind the RH Heelboard.
Hope that helps.

Re: Auxiliary Power
Hi Andy, yes there is certainly a fuse board behind both heel boards of the rear seats, but not sure what ones are an auxiliary ones. Do you know?
Re: Auxiliary Power
Hi Doug,
It should be a black plug. There might also be one in the boot ahead of the battery.
Information also suggests: 1998 wiring diagram states "RH heelboard", 2001 states "RH A post".
Good luck.

Re: Auxiliary Power
Thanks Andy will take a look.
Re: Auxiliary Power
Hi Andy, Took a look and yes this appears to be an auxiliary socket. There are three wires, a black, a green and brown and a purple and brown. Do you know what these represent or does anyone know?
Re: Auxiliary Power
Hi Doug,
Originaly the socket was for an Auxiliary power socket ( Part No: C2A1403 ) which plugged into the socket you have found.
It was used across the Jaguar/Land Rover range.
This is the link:
https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.co ... nd/jaguar/
I would test the wires with a multi-meter and see what you have.
Test with the ignition key in various positions.
Hope that helps.

Re: Auxiliary Power
I have now found that the Green & Brown wire is live at all times. The Purple & Brown has no current whatsoever, regardless whether the ignition is on or off and i have to assume that the Black wire is negative. I have also discovered that both my inner boot lid lamps are not working (bulbs checked, all ok) as well as the glove box lamp. I think it may be a fuse, but i have tried to find a wiring diagram for the various fuses boards within the XJ8 but have failed. Is there a electrical manual available for this car?

From when I owned an X308, your problem with non-working boot lid lamps may be down to broken wiring in the loom that loops around the right-hand hinge. Broken wires here are common as the loom is too tight. The first wire failure to usually cause investigation of this area is for the boot release button. Broken wires need to be spliced to give a bit of movement and, as I found, it's better to unclip the loom from the hinge and allow it to take up its own preferred bend.

Happy reading.
Feel free to download it and keep.
Agree with BrianG about the hinge,it can also affect the boot release button, see this thread:

Re: Auxiliary Power
Hi Brian, would this also effect the glove box light not working?
Also, the wiring appears to be fed into the right hand boot hinge and covered by a plastic cover. Just been out and fiddled with the exposed wiring loom as it goes into the rear boot area and the lights came on. So it appears to be a lose wire somewhere. The problem for me is to trace the offend wire as they are all wrapped up tightly for a number of rear electric components. Anyone got any suggestions?

Re: Auxiliary Power
Hi Doug,
No I think glovebox light is a separate issue. The only way to find the offending wire(s) in the boot is to unclip the plastic cover at the hinge, unwrap the outer covering of the loom, then push it away to a more convenient position. Once you have unwrapped the covering you can then wiggle individual wires more easily, but from memory it doesn't help that several of the wires are the same colour! Individual failed wires need to have a piece spliced in at least 2" either side of the break to prevent further breakage and relieve the strain. Don't put the loom back under the plastic cover - it has more room to move about if left free. (It wasn't a very good design, basically.)

Re: Auxiliary Power
Thanks Brian. I have my suspicions regarding the glove box and will look at that when it warms up a bit. The same with the boot lights, as although i have a double garage, i can’t get the XJ8 in as its too long. Looks as though its a job for the spring!

That will give you plenty of time to read through the Electrical Manual for the X308
Stay safe.
