Lamp-high Mo

Postby DougX » Sat Mar 19, 2022 3:02 pm

Assistance needed please. I have a problem with my rear Lamp-high Mo (that's how it's described) Jaguar Part No: LNC5000AFAGD.
It has come adrift from the rear window and I initially tried superglue to stick it back to the window. Fell off after a few months. Then tried araldite but again failed to stick it on for any period of time. Can anyone suggest anything else. Or is it likely that something is missing/broken off the light fitting - see photo's.

Hi Doug,
I had exactly the same issue as have other owners of XJ8's.
Like yourself I tried superglue and then different types of epoxy glue(the two part type).
Some lasted longer than others and all seem not to like the sun on the rear screen.
Then I tried the sticky pads they use for rear view mirrors on the windscreen and that still dropped after a while.
So then while the pads were still tacky and stuck to the lamps brackets(it was the glass that was causing the problem,I think)I just put a bit of superglue on the pads and tried again and so far so good.
I think that was over a couple of years ago now.
Hope that helps a bit and good luck.
Take care and stay safe.

Hi Doug, the stuff that the windscreen repair guys have access to for affixing the rear view mirror seems to do the trick - find a friendly Autoglass guy or girl.

Tried all the examples indicated except going to an Autoglass fitter. Nothing is working, it just drops off. Getting very frustrated. Wondering whether to buy a new lamp.

Hi Doug,
Sorry to hear you haven't been able to solve the Hi-Mount Brake Lamp gluing issue.
I was attending a craft exhibition last weekend and one of the stalls was selling this product:
http://www.powerbonduk.com/product-details.html
Seemed quite good on the demo I saw at the exhibition, might be worth a try.
I don't think the little brackets come with the lamp so if you did buy a new lamp you will still have the issue of attaching the brackets to the rear window.
https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.co ... nd/jaguar/
When I did mine I glued the brackets onto the rear window first and then attached the lamp after 12 hours or so.
I also keyed the surface of the brackets and the screen the best I could before gluing.
Good luck anyway.
Hope you get it sorted.
Take care.

Hi Andy, thanks for the link. In your comment you mention that new brake lights do not come with brackets. They don’t, but on inspection of my existing brake light, there are no brackets either on the window or the unit itself. Now thinking of it, when I had the car completely resprayed, the rear window was taken out. I now wonder whether the brackets were removed and not put back. I have tried to find pictures of the rear brake light bracket without success. It doesn’t look as if I can purchase then separately. I am now considering purchasing a universal rear high level LED brake light. There’s plenty on eBay which stick to the rear window.

Hi Doug,
In your first post I can see the little brackets in the middle photo of your lamp.
If you look from below looking up at the lamp you will see a little prong which when pulled should release the bracket, one at each end.
I had thought about the led as a third brake light,I quite like the ones that run along the top of the rear screen(aka Audi style).
Anyway hope that helps a bit.
Take care.
