Fuse Box???

Postby DougX » Thu Apr 25, 2019 4:10 pm

I have been trying to fit a Nextbase 301GW dash cam to my X308. The easiest fuse box, so I thought, was the one on the offside rear below the passenger seat. However, checking out an electrical diagram of this fuse box, there were a number of fuses indicated to items not fitted to the car, i.e. sunroof, heated seats, heated door mirrors, etc. However, they all have fuses fitted. When using the Nextbase fitting kit, I wasn't able to get direct power to the camera from any port used. Anyone any ideas?

If there are no volts at the fuses you've got but no facilities for means those options have'nt been switched on in CANbus as an attempt to restrict aftermarket fitting

A switched live feed would have to be found and seperately fused to your camera setup's +12V -- usually by an in-line cartridge type fuse. Your camera's setup booklet should have suggested value.

Tapping into an existing delegated +12V source could cause that circuit to think there's something wrong with the item it's feeding, because of the extra current taken, and switch off the circuit. That's one of the protection jobs of CANbus

Thanks Richard. Interesting thoughts. Will look elsewhere.
