Boot not opening on door unlock button
Hi guys, new to J.E.C. Got a 1998 xj8. The doors open with the unlock button on the fob but the boot does not. However it will open with the boot button on the fob. Tried pushing the valet button but this does nothing, only bleeps at me. Tried opening the boot with the key as suggested on google but this hasn't worked either. Any ideas please.

Re: Boot not opening on door unlock button
I have an X300 and had a similar problem. The actuating rod had become detached. I had much advice and tried all sorts. The only solution was to remove the number plate, drill a significant hole through the boot lid, just about dead centre and there are the rods. move to the right - hey presto. Now you can get at the inner boot panels and access the offending rod/s.
Re: Boot not opening on door unlock button
Simon,
If it opens with the fob button but not by activating the button on the boot lid, it could be the bootlid button itself, which is a known failure point. I think that it is also the same button as other models (X-Type or S-Type?). Readily available on ebay for less than £20. Check with Rob Jenner for inter-changeability. He might also have one for sale.
Good luck
Paul
