Hi, I've owned my XJ8 for about 9 months, it's my first Jag and it's great!

I’m having problems with my wipers, they switch on OK but when I turn them off, they continue for another 10 to 20 wipes, they then don’t park, on about the fourth attempt at switching them on and off they’ll park.

They’re generally erratic, I understand it’s a problem with the wiper motor, (can anyone confirm this?) I believe a new Wiper motors about £400.00.
I guess eventually a second hand motor will give me the same problem.

Is it possible to fix this or anybody got any ideas?

There is a couple of posts on this topic in the XK8 Forum.
One member had the wiper motor changed and says the genuine Jag part is around £90.
Another changed the motor microswitch costing 99 pence and that solved his problem.(farnellinone dot com XCF3 S1Z1 order code 777-1720).

I’ll get a second quote for the wiper motor, £90 is a lot better than £400.00 (that was at Rybrook’s of Chester).
The micro switch option sounds even better, John mentioned he’s posted details about replacing the micro switch in the X300 section of jaglovers, where do I find X300 jaglovers?

I have a similar problem with my wiper, totally erratic. Did you find a solution?

Yes, I changed the Wiper motor micro switch, not such a big job and very rewarding when it all works.
Once the motor has been removed, lift off the cover, there’s no need to disturb the wires attaching the lid to the motor, just pull the lid back carefully.
On my Wiper motor the micro switch just pulled off, you need to disconnect the wires from the switch and push the new switch on, soldering the two connections.
The new micro switch had three connectors, I broke the centre one off and it works fine.

Hi Folks,

I discovered the wiper motor microswitch problem about three years ago and posted a fix on the "Jaglover's" web site which was that you don't necessarily have to replace the microswitch.

Mine conked out in the rain going up to Brum for the JEC XJ8 factory seminar in 2005: I fixed it by using copious quantities of WD40 injected into the switch at all the nooks and crannies. It's worked perfectly ever since.

How difficult is it to get to the wiper motor to squirt in WD40?

rtd dci.......your profile doesn't say where you are based but im sure if that is the way you want to go a local specialist would do the job quite cheaply.
Look in your recommended suppliers list and find your nearest specialist.......Joe
