Engine Coolant Level Warning

Postby tony5224 » Tue Nov 18, 2008 11:13 pm

Following a recent service, this warning has been intermittently winking at me. The warning has however now become permanent after about 8 miles of driving. The thermostat continues to indicate normal engine temperature level.

The coolant is at the required level in the overflow chamber, the mix has been checked, the sensor has been changed an I'm beginning to think my garage has run out of ideas.

Any suggestions as to a possible cause would be welcome!

Thanks for the suggestion Joe, unfortunately we struck out on that one. I will post the solution when I find it, just in case anyone else has the same problem.

the sensor picks up a signal from a float within the header tank,

this can get stuck at the bottom when all the fluid is drained out when a service is carried out,

i would imagine that this is your problem, as you have exhausted all other reasons ....

mine comes on for the first few miles, and only started happening after i fitted a new coolant pump, and of course, i had drained said coolant ,

try taking the tank out , giving it as good a clean as you can , and seeing if you can get the float to move , it has a magnet in it that effects the sensor

hope this helps
