Low Coolant Level Warning

Hello Folks,
I've got the Low Coolant Level warning permanently displayed after checking the level is correct and changing the sensor. Just wondering if this fault has to be cleared down? Anyone else had this problem? Regards, Charlie.

If the level is correct and the warning persists, then the sensor must be at fault, that is not a code you would have to clear. New sensors are relatively inexpensive and I think a pretty easy DIY fix.

Does the warning go out when the two pins in the cap are shorted?

"tried 2 sensors" I assume they were new ones?
Does the warning go out and then come on again after change out?

Does the coolant level in the resovoir go down appreciably when up to temperature? If so then coolant level needs "pressing up" with heater on full, then top up when up to full operating temperature

Any help?

Check the wiring, especially adjacent to the sensor; there really isn't much else to go wrong.

Thanx wilco. Think there's more to it and that there's something untoward in the toptank i.e., not functioning in conjunction with the sensor. Rgds.

A different cause to the others on this post, but I’d thought I’d share.. I had low coolant warning after around 200 miles use, had to top up about a pint. Didn’t think it was the rad as it was bought as a genuine jaguar item from a reputable dealer known to the club only 18 months/3000 miles ago. So I asked my mechanic to check up on ramp. He found rad was leaking at bottom. Nothing he could do unfortunately so had to spend another 750 quid on one from jag dealer, plus fitting as I need her as my daily driver.
I later took the old rad to a specialist who pressure tested it. Found leak from internal o-ring gasket behind oil cooler water coupling RHS. There’s nothing actually wrong with the main rad….He repaired it quite easily and then now I’ve virtually a brand new rad as a spare….

It’s just an area worth checking when you cannot seem to find the leak. It’s advertised on the club classifieds but If anyone needs a virtually new genuine one fully tested they are quite welcome to make an offer.
Cheers

Just a quick warning for anyone planning to start up their car when on the road and leaving it on tick over to full operating temperature with the heater on full and then top up (after making sure there's no bubbles seen in coolant filler). Down here in Blackheath (southeast London) loony Labour Lewisham are now issuing penalty charge notices for leaving your car on tickover. On the basis that causes air pollution (children will grow up with "stunted lungs", 4,000 will die in greater London prematurely by six months, and we'll all die from global warming by 2050, etc, etc)
The "fine" is £60, doubling if not paid within 14 days. No matter if you're a resident or not. No matter whether you're legally parked on the road. One resident got done for his car parked off the road in front of his house... Took it to the Traffic Appeals Tribunals' Service and won. But was refused any payment for costs

Be warned! Loadsa more stuff in Greater London Transport Newsletter (Google for it) Or it's at: https://www.abdlondon.uk/gltn.htm
