warning signs in the dash in the morning ?
no problem with the actual coolant level ?
fault clears after a few miles ?
then you may have a problematic coolant level sensor , and is about the easiest job on an XJ8 you can do, you dont even need any tools...
thats right....
NO TOOLS required !!!
even better....
you dont have to drain any coolant to do the job either !!!
first you need to eliminate any other problems, such as actual low coolant, a dodgy electrical plug to the sensor , or even an unpluged plug etc
if you still come back thinking its the sensor, then you need part number LNA-5740-AB , Jaguar charge around £40 for this, i got mine brand new on ebay for £20
first of all, pop the bonnet , and make sure the engine isnt too hot to work around it , carefully remove the coolant cap, releasing any pressure gradually , then using a bright torch ( or on a bright day ) look into the reservoir , you will see a small round whitle plasic item , ensure this is freely moving up and down on the tube ( pot ) it goes round,
put the cap back on
then , right under the cap on the bottom of the expansion tank you will see a two wire plug , remove this from the connector , the connector it was attached to is the sensor , simply pull downwards with firm pressure to remove it from the tank, dont worry , no coolant will escape , its mounted into a ' pot ' , the one you saw in through the cap.
take the new sensor, firmly push up into the pot untill you hear a click, and thats the sensor mounted, reconnect the plug and that it , job done
go and turn on the ignition and see if the fault has cleared
if not, its nothing to do with me, lol
