Smoking engine - valve oil seals?

My 3.2 V8 has done nearly 190,000 miles, and smokes like a chimney. Typical symptoms of failed inlet valve oil seals - when you open the throttle after slowing from speed with a closed throttle, it leaves a smoke screen thick enough to hide the QE2!

It's not the Nikasil bores - I had a crankcase blow-by test done at the local Jaguar dealers, and it came in at only 7 firkins per fortnight (or whatever units - litres per minute?), which is excellent. (Actually, it's more interesting than that. I first had the test about 7 years ago, when it gave 23 - that was using Mobil 5W-30 oil. About 3 years ago, another test gave 20, that was using Mobil 10W 40 oil. The current test was using GTX 10W 40 oil. So it looks like GTX is better. However, Ken Jenkins says 10W is too thick, and I've changed to Morris's 5W 40 - no blow-by figures for that.)

A couple of years ago, the dealers said about £2,500 to replace the seals, which is a bit of a bad joke. Jaguar GTR is silent on the matter, as far as I could see. Does anyone know if it's a possible DIY job?
