Head gaskets replaced... wallet damaged

Friday 9th April: My wife called me 2 miles into a short journey to say "help. needle has shot to top of temperature gauge and red warning light at top of gauge has come on". She cruised the 2 miles home at max 20mph with temperature gauge back down at usual 2/3 position.
David Marks doing a weekend seminar and then away for a few weeks. I needed it diagnosing and sorting so reluctantly had it transported to main dealer HA Fox in Nottingham.
Hoses and seals checked first, didn't do the trick. Head gaskets suspected, £2500 bill likely. To be fair, they ended up doing lots of discounting on parts and labour to stick to this even when they discovered other bits and pieces.
Head gasket guess correct. Heads skimmed etc. Payment made. Car collected. Behaving itself!
Was it worth it? Well, if I had walked away after diagnosis then I'd still have had to pay the bill to that point and would have had a car worth £0. So yes.
Cry for me.
