SUMP REMOVAL

Dear All
Up until last week I had a 3.2 engine that purred like a kitten , however , due to my own stupidity and the location where my oil warning light came on and was ignored for 10 miles , I now have a 3.2 engine which knocks . Sounds like one big end which has been starved of oil . I removed the front sump oil pan to find that I cannot gain any access to the big ends . When I removed the front sump oil pan I found that it was caked in sludge and had hard bits in it , on closer inspection I found that they were brown pieces of bakelite material which I presume used to be part of chain tensioners ?
Since that day I have been trying to source big end shells without success .

i have jacked up the front of the car to try to see how I should tackle the problem and find that it may be easier if I made a support to fix the engine onto from above and then remove everything from below , subframe , suspension , sterring rack etc .

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the big end shells and a good method of sump removal .

thank you in advance

David

David,

The lack of bearing availability is a known problem for any Jaguar V8.

Racing Green to the rescue. They have had specially made sets of undersize bearings manufactured. Give them a call. I expect they will be able to help you.

David.......sounds like you need more than bearing shells.......
I dont know your location, but it needs some consultation with an engine expert who could recognise the faults you have accelerated by having dirty oil and running with the engine light on......a complete engine overall or even a recon engine is what i would be contemplating........try Chris Forbes in Coventry and have a chat with him...........
