i have had 2 xjrs my first was a 1997 which i didnt have long as the engine went bang after £2.500 putting a second hand engine in it the car just didnt seem right. so i search for a new one this time i bought a 2001 xjr 37000 miles from new all the service history was forwarded by the belfast dealer who looked after the car i have had it since nov 2006 & i have always had it service on time at dorset jaguar anytime it needed doing i said yes do it. this year with the car showing 53000 they recomended the timing chains be changed no problem go ahead & also changed the water pump as well one bill for full service & timing chains changed £2.500. 4000 miles later & here i am again the engine has seized 2 exhaust valves have buried themselfs in the piston ? so here i am again searching for another engine & an answer to what is it i have to do to get this right. it seems no matter what you do something goes wrong. i must admit at this stage i feel like walking away from jags all together but cant afford to so with the help of tim at dorset jag center who has been a great source of help we are looking to fit a 4.2 engine out of an xkr we will see how long this one last. at this point tim is unable to identify why this happened an answer which we both want an answer to.

hi got your reply but as for your ref 4.2 out of xkr into cant be done im afraid your wrong its alraedy been done by danny of elite & performance jags in derby i have spoken to danny about the conversion & he has been very helpful he advise is try to get an early 4.2 without the vvt fit the heads from the 4.0 unit & the injection spray bars & it will go straight in but the engine must come from the xkr. if i go ahead i let you know how we get on.
