Hi, all;
I'm hoping someone can assist me with a part name or number. I went to change the oil and filter today, and found a part missing.
Covering the oil filter, there is a black plastic shroud; it's about 10 inches by 5 inches. At the rear, It has a tongue that allows it to snug into what looks to be some kind of ventilation tube. At the front, there are tabs that allow it to pressure fit under the front black-plastic 'skid plate' (that piece of plastic that can often get cracked if the car parks nose-in too close to a curb and rides up). It has a bolt in the middle that allows it to secure just forward of the oil filter.
I recently had some work done at the dealer and they removed it and, alas, did not put it back. I'll need to order another as I suspect it's been thrown out by now.
Does anyone know the name of this part of have a part number for it?
Any assistance much appreciated.
Adam

Re: Plastic cover over oil filter
Hi Adam - it sounds to me like what you're describing is the alternator cooling duct - part no 2 in the picture below? The part number is HNC4477AA but that is no longer available to buy new. Its a part that's common to the X308 and XK8 and I'm sure it won't be hard to find one from one of the breakers that advertise in the magazine such as EuroJag or Auto Reserve.
It would be a concern to me if someone has worked on the car and not put it back together properly again. If they can miss something so obvious then they can't have checked very well and what else have they missed that you can't see?

Re: Plastic cover over oil filter
Thanks David, that's the part!
I agree completely.
The last time it went missing was when the dealer did an oil change; I started doing my own changes after that.
This time, it was when I had all the cooling hoses replaced.
I think perhaps they've decided that the piece isn't worth their time, and when they see it on a car they remove and bin it. I know I've gone looking at several wrecking yards, and I've only found one car with it on of a couple of dozen X308s -- and I bought that to replace it the first time it went missing.
There's no chance the dealer has kept it -- the repair was a month ago. I'll see if any wreckers in Canada have it, and if no luck, then see about having one sent from the UK.
Thank you so much for giving me the name of the part and the part number!

Re: Plastic cover over oil filter
Dear David;
Thank you so much for suggesting I contact the JEC suppliers for my alternator cooling duct scoop. AutoReserve had the part, and is shipping it presently. Andy answered my inquiry. He's thorough, detailed, and delivers remarkable customer service.
The site is bookmarked, an account created, and my peace-of-mind restored.
This JEC forum has kept my car on the road all these years, and I'm always learning something, or finding a solution to a problem. Your effort in supplying a part number and JEC advertisers who were potential suppliers of it is just such an example, and I am so grateful.
Thank you.
