Hello All,
It's my first post, so I am wondering if you can help me with some general info on the above.
To explain, I have an XKR 4litre V8 and the engines in these cars were susceptible to timing chain tensioners problems. Particularly in the early years 1996 to 2000. I am fully aware of the problem in the XK8 range but as I am about to sell this car (not enough space, kids growing up) I want to replace it with an XJ8. I haven't heard anything along these lines affecting the XJ8 but perhaps you guys might be more familiar with the Xj than I am. It seems logical to think that they maybe but as I am about to buy one I thought I had better check with 'the experts'.
Any ideas???
Cheers,

Hi,
If you check the heading, you will see you have picked the wrong sort of XJ to locate your query which might be why you haven't had a quick response from members. That apart, the answer is, 'yes', all the V8 engines until the introduction of the 4.2 litre in 2002 had the same timing chain tensioners and issues. Consequently, when buying an X308 (3.2 or 4.0 litre) you will need evidence that the tensioners have been upgraded to the later metal bodied versions. Alternatively, a lack of such evidence should be a negotiating point to give you sufficient funds to complete the upgrade asap. Mike.

Hello Hawker,
As Mike says wrong XJ Forum, you need the X308 Forum which will cover your potential car.
I'am sure you will find more info to your question there but as Mike says all 3.2/4.0 L engines will have that problem.
Also I'am pretty sure all Daimlers of the X308 Model use 4.0 L engines, they never made them with the 3.2 L engine so be careful there
,could be someone trying to pass of a Jaguar as a Daimler.
Welcome to the Forum anyway, hope you enjoy it.
Take Care.
Andy
