Undertray clips and screws

Postby DougX » Tue Mar 23, 2021 6:18 pm

Can anyone help with identify the clips and screws for the front undertray on a 1999 XJ8 3.2L? There are six forward facing holes, the side ones appear to be fir clips, I think. I have looked in the SNG Barratts catalogue and they appear not to show them. I need the Jag product number too if anyone knows please.

Hi Doug,
The main ones on the front edge are P/N KRS112120 listed in the Catalogue as "Rivet Screw" but more commonly known as "Scrivets":

The Scrivet is pushed through the Undertray into the Bumper. When the screw (arrowed in blue) is tightened, the body (arrowed in red) expands and locks into position.
There are three types listed in the parts catalogue.

When I removed my undertray I found someone in the past had used steel bolts/screws with spring nuts which had all rusted.
Once I got them off I replaced them with stainless steel ones.

Hope that helps.
Take care.

Hi Andy, those rivet screws are not on mine. I think they are called Spire Clips Lug Chimney U Nuts Speed Fixings Thread Panel Fasteners METAL. See pictures of the ones that I have taken off. As you will see well corroded and past there best!

Those ones are like the ones that were on mine.
Real bugger to get off.
I guess the factory just used what they had at hand(who knows).
Get some stainless ones, they are a lot better and will not corrode.
Like these on eBay,plenty to choose from:

Stay safe.

Thanks Andy, I can’t get them of the same size. I was concerned that they wouldn’t fit properly if I purchased ones that were slightly different. The existing ones were 20mm x 20mm. All the ones I have looked at where either smaller or larger than these. Also tried SNG Barrett’s but they couldn’t come up with the same clips/screws. Tried other various suppliers without success. Have ordered those you initially indicated from e-bay and will try to see if these fit securely.

Hi Andy, on trying to remove the undertray I needed to drill out the existing screws as they were so rusted up, there was no way they could be removed with a screwdriver! However (WARNING TO OTHERS) if one needs to drill out the screws, beware the offside screws are right against the washer bottle! Try not to do what I did and drill right through the water bottle!! Hole in one!! I have hopefully fixed it with Aradite. Tomorrow will be testing day! I haven't tried to refix the undertray yet with the clips you suggested (which arrived within 48 hrs) as I need to make sure the water bottle doesn't leak. If it's ok, then I will endeavor to refix the undertray. Not expecting any troubles (famous last words!!!).

That's a bit of bad luck. :(
Araldite should work fine.
I had to drill a couple of mine out but luckily they were at the front.
Good luck refitting the undertray.
At least the weather is looking better.
Take care.

Done! No future problems now with the undertray. I will have to change the oil and filter at some stage, but while it is SORN there’s no rush! Now working on my XK8 which has a leaking headlight power washer. Started this, which was a real pain, as I had to drop the front bumper to get the headlight out. New power washer on order with dealership. Indicated will be in tomorrow. At least the weather is going to be good for the next few days, which will allow me to finish the job! Thanks for your advice Andy.
