The s/c pump fuse relates only to the supercharged cars which have 2 pumps. One is used on startup and above about 3000rpm when demand is high. T’other one is for normal use,

Glad you got sorted though.

Thanks Ian. Yes, it seems to be sorted now. That pump / filter fault must've been there for sometime as even when I got it the first cold snap led to longer starting times. But always in warm weather much easier. Thus being led up the wrong road: temperature :x

Still not sure about how the choke start actually works. With a new coolant temperature sensor, cold start runs up to 1,250rpm initially, gradually falls back to 750, then about 650 idle at full temperature. No revs difference whether in drive or neutral / park.

Is choke ON a function of fuel injector pulse width?
If so, what keeps air flow to correct mixture?
All controlled by ECU?
Coming from carbs and choke flaps never did find out even during my 10 years of an '06MY Passat tFSI 2L

I've also got an XJ6 series 1 with an AED between the carbs. Reliable method? Not :!:

Hi Richard,
Yes, injector pulse width is continually adjusted by the ecu in response to inputs from air temp, water temp and mass air flow sensors plus throttle position and possibly others. It is certainly more accurate than the old ‘bucket and chuck it’ method of carbs and AEDs of old. Unfortunately the X308/X100 mapping was a bit suspect and could lead to overfuelling on multiple close together cold starts.
